A CALL TO ACTION - POLONIA PROTESTUJE

A CALL TO ACTION - POLONIA PROTESTUJE
PN, 20/11/2007 10:07Antypolski "dowcip" wywołał protesty Polonii
“… wy Polacy macie to we krwi jak kielbase i kolaboracje z nazistami .”“… it’s in your polish blood, like kielbasa and collaborating with Nazis."
Polonia amerykańska w Chicago podjęła akcję protestów przeciw wypowiedzi jednego z bohaterów serialu komediowego telewizji Fox, który powiedział, że Polacy "mają we krwi współpracę z nazistami".
W odcinku sitcomu "Back to You", nadanym 14 listopada, jeden z jego bohaterów, zachęcając kolegę do gry w kręgle, mówi do niego: "C'mon Gary. Bowling is in your Polish blood, like kielbasa, and collaborating with the Nazis." - co można przetłumaczyć: „Hej Gary. Jesteś pochodzenia polskiego kręgle masz we krwi tak, jak kiełbasę i kolaborację z nazistami”.Po tych ostatnich słowach rozległ się głośny śmiech zza kadru.
Słuchacze, widzowie i dziennikarze mediów polonijnych - telewizji Polvision i Radia 1030 w Chicago - zawiadomili o antypolskiej wypowiedzi Kongres Polonii Amerykańskiej i skierowali list protestacyjny do wiceprezesa telewizji Fox w Los Angeles Josepha Earleya."Obrażające zdanie ukazuje albo całkowity brak podstawowej wiedzy historycznej i politycznej, albo jest celowym zniesławieniem jednego z najbardziej bohaterskich narodów walczących z Niemcami. (...) Jako jeden z 10 milionów polskich Amerykanów domagam się pełnych przeprosin od prezesa Fox Network, jej kierownictwa i autorów (serialu) z informacją o personalnych decyzjach odnośnie osób odpowiedzialnych za te uwłaczające i rasistowskie stwierdzenia" - czytamy w liście.Sprawą zajął się m.in. prezes KPA Frank Spula. Zawiadomiono już także Kancelarię Prezydenta RP w Warszawie.

From dr Mark Rudnicki
Hello,Recently,a defaming and insulting phrase "...Polish blood, like kielbasa, like collaborating with the Nazis..." appearedon the Fox Network Show "Back to you" :( http://streaming.myfoxchicago.com/backtoyou/index.html# , 1.45 – 1.55 sec from beginning).
I strongly feel that this was a derogatory, absolutely unjustified, unfair, false, and untrue statement. Moreover, I am compelled to submit the attached letter to the FOX Broadcasting Company, protestingthis grossmisrepresentation of Poland's roleduring the Second World War.
If you share my feelings, please email or fax your opinion to the Fox Executive Office. Please feel free to use the attached letter. I think that we should not stay silent and tolerate further such an abuse of media power and its dissemination of accusatory and racist remarks.
Among many different Fox Executive Offices I have elected to submit the letter to:

Dear Mr. Earley,
I am writing to express my strongest possible objection against a defamingphrase that appeared recently on the Fox Network show "Back to you." The statement, made by one of the characters, was directed at people of Polish descent: "...Polish blood, like kielbasa, like collaborating with the Nazis...". The utterance was followed by a recorded laugh track presumably from a studio audience (http://streaming.myfoxchicago.com/backtoyou/index.html# , 1.45 - 1.55 min. from beginning). Needless to say, this phrase is incredibly offensive and outrageous. This insulting sentence shows either a total lack of basic historical and political knowledge or a purposeful defamation of one of the most heroic nations that lost millions of people fighting against Germany while others were waiting and watching. As one of the 10 million of Polish Americans, I request full apology from the President of the Fox Network, its management and writers with information about personal decisions regarding the people responsible for these derogatory and racist statements. We need to teach our children true history and values - and people who know nothing about these major historical events should not be in the position to disseminate false and accusatory information. It is my strong opinion that it is the Fox Network's responsibility to take action in this case, or deal with a boycott of the channel and its sponsors as well as legal ramifications of these libelous statements of the Network. As a company that claims to have a more fair and credible news coverage compared to others, it is outrageous that this remark was allowed to appear on a national show.
Sincerely,
Marek Rudnicki, MD195 N. Harbor Dr. # 5002Chicago, Il 60601Cc: President, Republic of PolandMinistry of Foreign Affairs, Republic of PolandEmbassy of Poland, WashingtonPolish American CongressMedia, Organizations, Communities

A copy of letter by Lucja Sliwa sent to Chicago Tribune:
On November 14, 2007 Fox Television (Channel 32 in Chicago) broadcast an outrageously offensive historical lie veiled as comedic banter, which only makes it all the more insidious (“….it’s in your Polish blood, like kielbasa and collaborating with the Nazis”).
Steven Levitan and his team of writers and producers either possess the historical knowledge of the average Jay Leno “Jay-walker”, or had made a deliberate, malicious attempt to smear Americans of Polish descent and the Polish Nation as a whole.
Poland suffered unimaginable losses at the hands of Nazi Germany and no other nation fought the Nazis as long and as valiantly as did the Poles while many countries continued to do business with Hitler and chose not to honor treaties to come to Poland’s aid.
Poland lost millions of its citizens in the murderous war and occupation. Her capital, Warsaw, was ruthlessly shelled, burned and bombed by the Germans until only rubble remained of historic homes, government buildings, hospitals and churches.
Poland was the only country in occupied Europe where the death penalty was imposed for harboring Jews. Often entire Polish families, including babies, were murdered by barbaric Germans when a Jew was discovered hiding in their home. And yet, contrary to anti-Polish propaganda spewed by the likes of J.T. Gross, Alan Dershovitz and their ilk (and now Fox TV?), more Poles than people of any other nation came to the aid of Jews seeking shelter. Just count the number of “Polish” trees in the Righteous Among Nations Garden in the Yad Vashem.
The Fox Television Network, as well as the producers and writers of “Back to You” need to apologize not only to the millions of Polish Americans, but to all viewers who were subjected to this revisionism of world history - canned laughter is not a mitigating factor.
We all know that, unfortunately, many children and young people “learn” history not by reading books but by watching television shows and inferior quality movies – a handy tool for revisionists, indeed.
Until this assault on decency and historical truth is rectified I urge all readers, regardless of nationality, race or religion to call, email, fax or write the Fox Television Network and demand an apology to your fellow citizens and Poles throughout the world.

Dear Sir or Madam:
I am of Polish descent, my father fought in WWII for the Polish Cavalry, the Free French & the US Army. Last night I was switching channels before a basketball game and came upon a Fox network show called "Back to You" ( Wednesday November 4, 2007, 7 pm CT). I caught the first 3 minutes which was a scene with Kelsey Grammer & another male actor concerning bowling. The other actor tried to shame Mr. Grammer into bowling by making a reference to the "fact" that bowling was as much a part of Polish genetics ( the actual line was something like ,.as much in your blood as..')as "...collaborating with the Nazis..". I find this incredibly offensiveand sincerely hope that you take appropriate steps to register vigorously how disgusting, disrespectful and outrageous this defamation is to the Polish people and the utter disregard for the heroism shown by Poles who lost their lives in the millions standing up to the Nazis as well as those who fought against them on many different grounds and many different levelsand survived. Thisinsult is made more egregious bythe fact that earlier this week marked the 'anniversary' of the 14,000 murdered Polish army men shot, killed & buried ina Polishforest.
Sincerely,
J. Ptak

Dear All,I, fortunately, did not see the television show my brother referred to in his note. It's a good thing I didn't see it. I too am astonished and outraged by Grammer's remarks. But it's not surprising considering the garbage this station puts on the air. If they have a chance to slander and mock the brave and noble people of Polish descent, they will. I'm surprised a snide comment about the remarkable Catholicism of the Polish people was not included in this sick comment. My brother did not mention the thousands of brave Poles who were tortured, beaten, killed or died in the Nazi concentration camps. I sincerely hope you will vigorously respond to this outrageous attack on Poles throughout the world!Sincerely yoursDr. Louis Richard PtakLouis R. Ptak, Ph.D.
